" Every so often, I read a self-published book so good I hope the author finds a bright future. That's what happened when I read "Dropped Dead in Kona," first in a series featuring an endearing married couple who live in Hawaii.
"The book begins when Joe and Margie stumble on a woman's dead body lying on a fairway adjacent to their home. Joe doesn't want to get involved, but Margie is itching to investigate. The holidays are approaching, and soon the couple's house is crowded with Margie's bickering parents, a girlfriend of the murder suspect and various other folks. Joe's an affable guy, but his patience is strained when he has to retreat to his shower to get some peace and privacy while Margie focuses on sleuthing. Joe's only confidante is his oversized Yorkshire terrier, Magoo.

dialogue is snappy and believable and the plot zips along. Joe and Margie, who's

Despite the countless flaws in this novel, I did like it. But it is more "domestic" than mystery. I didn't care for the way the author wrote in first person then switched to suit the behind the scenes happenings. That is not a good writing technique and probably why the author self-published instead of finding a legit publishing house.Product details

I read this book while vacationing in Kona. It was great! Good mystery and places in book are real so it was fun reading about the places that I was currently visiting. It enhanced my Hawaiian vacation!
This book to me is not quite a Cozy but very close. The main characters are fun and different than normal. At times it does not seem to be a myster as much as a humorous book. I do look forward to reaing more advendures of Margie and Joe.
Margie loves solving a mystery but having family drop in for an extended vacation makes for one problem after another. Especially for Margie's newlywed husband who had no idea she even had a family! Fun and fast read.
Joe and Margie lead an idyllic life in Hawaii-- except for the corpse in the garden. And Margie's crazy family is all coming for Thanksgiving!
Can Joe keep Margie from turning detective? Will he ever get his life back?
This is a fun story-- the first few chapters are a bit slow, but then I read the whole thing in one big gulp. You should get a copy, especially if you're expecting a lot of family for the holidays.
I zany cast of characters in the most beautiful setting on earth, Kona, Hawaii. A great page turning crime thriller that reads easy and keeps you entertained. Great read for pool or beach. Even better if that pool or beach is in Kona!
There is an equal balance here of personal interactions and solving a mystery from a non-professional bystander. It's fun to play detective, interact in multiple relationships, get an insight as to how experiences can color one's perspectives. Light but entertaining read.
To me it read more like the first draft of a potentially great story. I liked it but it seemed incomplete.
